SAFETY
Compared to other countries, Germany is a very safe country. The police are reliable and will provide assistance if you need it - just call 110. If you have any other difficulties, you can contact the embassy or consulate of your home country in Germany.
Germany is a safe country
In Germany, you usually don't have to worry too much about crime. In towns and villages, you can move around safely both during the day and at night without having to take special precautions. Of course, crime exists here too, so you should avoid unnecessary risks - for example, by not walking alone through dark streets or
forests at night.
The police - your friend and helper
The German police are reliable and offer trustworthy help. In cities, officers travel on foot, by bicycle, motorcycle or in so-called patrol cars. And in very rare cases even on horseback. They work in the mounted police squad.
In Germany, the police can be reached free of charge from any telephone at any time on 110. This number can be called not only in emergencies, but any time you need help. The police advise you to call too often rather than too few, as it is better to be safe than sorry. Whether you find yourself in a dangerous situation, have lost your wallet or discovered that your bike has been stolen - contacting the police is always the right decision!
Embassy or consulate - for even more help
The police are not the only point of contact for foreign students in emergencies. Almost every country has an embassy or consulate in Germany that you can turn to if you have any problems.
You can find more information on the website of the Federal Foreign Office.
Do not hesitate to contact the International Office if you have any questions about personal safety or other problems. The staff there will be happy to help you.
